Overview

Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Science

Political Science provides a foundational education that will help you understand and navigate the complexities of modern politics and international relations.

This program at Nipissing University will lead you to a law, government, diplomacy, or conflict resolution career.

You will learn about the origins and functions of the modern state, the reasons people follow the law and the critical role of civil disobedience, and how countries go to war and eventually find peace.

You will study, discuss and debate the most important political texts and global events while also gaining the skills you need to succeed in our political world.

The political science program is unique because it offers a balance of theory and practical skills.

You will learn how to read, write, speak, and think critically about all things political.

In Political Science, you will have the unique opportunity to work closely with professors to improve and refine these skills.

In the classroom, you will be encouraged to share your ideas and articulate questions, engage in exciting debates about provocative issues and even design an individualised study course based on your interests.

The popular Conflict Resolution and International Negotiations courses offer theories and methods to understand and alleviate conflict in various contexts, from the family to the workplace to relations between states.

You will learn and practice the skills to be effective international negotiators in the classroom.

These courses are perfect for anyone interested in careers in law, the military, nursing, business or work with international organizations.
